| Biography* | Stephen Tanney started a foundry in Kemptville, Ontario in 1837 or 1838. Soon afterwards he was joined by a man named, Sloan, the firm being named Tanney & Sloan. Later the plant was renamed the Dominion Foundry and was for some time operated by Stephen's brother-in-law, Levious M. Lamping and later by Levious' son, Vincent Patrick Lamping. This was the first business on the south side of the river in Kemptville, except for a few small places at the end of the bridge. |
