- Dominicus LAMPING born 1722, Schalbach, Lotharingen, France. He moved to the Banat area (Romania/Hungary) and died 24 September 1802 at Gertianosch, Banat (Hungary). (Rumanian: Carpinis, Hungarian: Gyertyamos).
Many of his descendants emigrated to the United States.
Descendants use the name Lamping and Lambing.

Countries of destination
Many descendants emigrated in search of a better live. United states - the new world - has the largest number of Lampings (and Lambings) outside Germany.
Conditions in Germany were harsh, especially around 1830. Either the oldest or youngest child in the family would inherit the elderly farm. The other must see how to survive.

- The German immigrant in Argentina was Friedrich Heinrich (Ferdinando) Lamping was born on 8 May 1778, at Ochsenbeck, Diepholz, Hannover, Preussen, Germany.
He was a gunsmith and went to Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1813. He married Mariana Rickson. They had five children.There was a German community in Buenos Aires. His daughter Henriette marries Gottlieb Hillner, who was born in Sachsen.

- Several German immigrants came to the Netherlands. There are two large branches and several smaller ones. The two large branches have their origins in Lotte, Osnabruck.

- The Dutch immigrant starting the Curaçao branch was Philippus Wilhelmus Johannes Lamping. (2nd great grandparent of Robert Frankln Lamping).
Nowadays there are no male Lamping name bearers on the island. Only my aunt Edith Lamping-Perret Gentil lives on the plantage Groot Sint Joris.
Philippus Wilhelmus Johannes Lamping was born in 's Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands during the short time that his family lived there. They came from Schiedam and returned to Schiedam afterwards.
Schiedam is the place where to his great grandfather Philippus (Wilm) Lamping immigrated to from Lotte, Germany.

Massena is located directly across the river from Ontario (then known as Upper Canada) and Quebec. Directly across the river is Cornwall, Ontario and east of Massena is Quebec and the St. Regis Indian Reservation.
The history of the Lamping family takes place on both sides of the St. Lawrence River in Canada and the United States.
